Karen E. McGee 1942-2017
Karen E McGee, loving wife, mother, sister and friend passed away on March 31, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 16, 1942 in Utica to William “Bud” and Angela “Angie” Kress . She was a 1960 graduate of Sauquoit High School and married David “Fibber” McGee in September 1960. They raised 5 children through 53 incredible years of marriage until his death in May 2014. She waitressed and bartended at Orchard Hall and the Old Spain hotel for many years. She was known for her skill at wallpapering and interior painting. She retired after 20 years from the New York State Department of Transportation in 1994. She is survived by her children: Colleen P Nolan (Ed) of Saratoga, Kelly A McGee & Jeff Wheelock of New Hartford, Patti McGee of Liverpool, Tim McGee (Simone Leite) of Tampa, Fl, Shawn McGee (Susan) of Glenville; her grandchildren Nicole M. Nolan of Saratoga, Ryan P. Nolan (Dianna) of Halfmoon, Tiernan J. Nolan of Clifton Park, Dylan McGee of Liverpool; great-grandson Ronan Somnitz of Saratoga; her siblings Barbara Kress Roberts, Patrick Kress, Karl Kress (Dody), Mary Lou Bartlett McEnroy and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her wonderful friends at Joan’s Diner and her beloved dogs Shadow and Mitzi. She was predeceased by two brothers; William “Bud” Kress Jr and infant Daniel Kress, her brother in law; Stan Roberts and sister in law; Suzanne Kress. She enjoyed reading, gaming, crossword puzzles, golf, a good joke and was often the life of the party. Most of all, her family and friends were always welcomed into her loving home.
Calling hours will be Saturday, April 8 from 10-12 at the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St. Sauquoit with services following immediately at 12:00.
