Joseph R. Shephard 1950-2018

Joseph R. Shephard, 67, passed away peacefuly at his home on March 16, 2018.
He was born on December 29, 1950 in Utica, a son of the late Stuart Raymond and Patricia Miller Shephard.
Joseph was raised and educated locally, attending UFA and later joined the U.S. Navy.
At one time Mr. Shephard held a position with the Masonic Home from which he retired in 2007 after over 40 years.
On July 12, 1969,he was united in marriage with Mary Lou Brown in St. Anthony of Padua Church in Chadwicks.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years Mary Lou Shephard, his son and daughter in law; Joseph and Melissa Shephard of Herkimer, his daughters and sons in law; Barbara and Edwin Pett of Clayville and Melissa and Mark Glenn of New Hartford, his sons; Sean Shephard and Andrew Shephard of Chadwicks, nine grandchildren; Emily Shephard, Janelle, Aaron and Zachary Pett, Lindsay Shephard, Matthew Coiro, Gabriella Haynes, Ryan Glenn and Jenna Glenn, four great-grandchildren, two brothers; Richard Shephard and Timothy Shephard, his sister and brother in law; Linda and Jim McLeod and his sister in law; Diane Shephard.
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and cousins. Joseph was especially close to his cousin David Shephard and his inlaws; Cheryl and Domenic Mantoan and Robin and Angelo Brindisi.
He was preceaded in death by his daughter; Lisa Shephard and his two brothers; Robert and Larry Shephard.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 20, from 4-7 at the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St. Sauquoit.
Joe’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 10:00 at St. Patrick’s-St. Anthony’s Church in Chadwicks.
