Jack H. DeHart, TSGT USAF Retired
1930 - 2018
TSGT DeHart age 88, passed away on Friday March 30, 2018 at the Siegenthaler Center in New Hartford, NY. Born in Danville, VA a son of the late Prentiss and Lillie Rosebud (Pritchett) DeHart. Jack was raised and educated in Danville, VA, where he attended Schoolfield High School.
In September of 1946 Mr. DeHart enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served in WWII, the Korean War, and Vietnam. He was wounded in Vietnam in May of 1967 and medically retired with over twenty-two years of active service in 1968. Jack was awarded many ribbons and medals, including, WWII Victory Medal, the Korean Service Medal with a Silver Star, and a Bronze Star. His Service in Vietnam was in the Dept of Defense Service Unit. He received the Vietnam Service Medal in 1966-1967, and the Vietnam Presidential Unit Citation and letter of Appreciation from the Republic of Korean Forces on October 24, 1966. On October 27, 1968 he married the former Norma Jean Tiffany a union blessed with over forty-nine years of mirrage.
Jack and his wife enjoyed researching many family genealogies throughout the years. Both Jack and Norma Jean were Life Members of the Lewis County Historical Association in Lowville, NY, and the Sauquoit United Methodist Church in Sauquoit, NY.
Jack held life memberships with the DAV Chapter Wheeler Stars-Stripes #82, Utica, NY, the Malsan Jones VFW 7393, New York Mills, NY, the American Legion-Charles J. Love, DSC, Post406, Boonville, NY, and the Air Force Sergeants Association, Chapter 174, Rome, NY.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Norma Jean, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Nina Margaret (Tiffany) Steet, and Joan (Tiffany) Corbin.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday afternoon from 4:00-6:00 at the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St. Sauquoit, NY 13456. Jack’s funeral service and celebration of life will take place immediately following visitation on Wednesday evening at 6:00 at the funeral home.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Najam Din, Faxton-St. Luke’s Health Care, 6th floor Oncology Unit, and the nurses and staff of the Siegenthaler Center for the care and compassion shared with Mr. DeHart and his family.

Interment with full military honors will be in Glendale Cemetery in Glenfield, N.Y. in the spring.
