Obituary for Diane Bielejec (Cifonelli)

Diane Bielejec (Cifonelli)
Diane M. Bielejec 1946-2018

Diane M. (Cifonelli) Bielejec, 72, passed away on August 22, 2018 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare in New Hartford. She was born on July 30, 1946 in Utica to the late Salvatore and Rose (Buono) Cifonelli. Diane was a 1964 Proctor graduate, a 1968 Oneonta graduate and received her Master’s Degree in Education from S.U.N.Y. Cortland.

On October 10, 1970 she was united in marriage with Edward H. Bielejec at St. John the Evangelist Church in New Hartford.

Diane was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, and aunt whose generosity and kindness knew no bounds. She truly loved spending time with her family and her friends whether she was hosting a holiday, going for a walk, traveling to new places, or just sitting down for a cup of tea. Diane’s patient ear and gentle advice will be greatly missed. Always a teacher, she had a wonderful way of helping those around her, especially her children to find their way through challenging times. She was always there to rejoice in their successes. Diane’s voracious love of reading lives on in her children and grandchildren with whom she bestowed countless books and hours of stories.

She was also a faithful communicant of St. Anthony-St. Joseph’s Church in Herkimer where she shared many peaceful hours of worship.

Diane is survived by her devoted husband of 47 years, Edward, her son and daughter-in-law; Edward and Helen Bielejec; her two daughters and sons-in-law; Stephanie and Dan Schuster and Emily and Devin Bielejec, five cherished grandchildren; Madelyn Schuster, Isaac Schuster, Thea Bielejec, Jane Bielejec and Edward Bielejec, her brother and sister in law; Robert and Denise Cifonelli and her nephews; Adam Cifonelli and Michael Cifonelli.

Prior to her retirement in 2008, Diane was employed with the Frankfort-Schuyler school district, most recently as their Special Education Teacher.

Diane’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 27 at 9:00 at Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, 229 South Main St. in Herkimer. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Utica.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4 at the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St. Sauquoit.
Please consider donations in her name to the Mid York Library System or St. Anthony-St. Joseph’s Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
