Bruce Brockett 1933-2018
Bruce Brockett, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at home on August 11, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Utica in 1933 he was the son of Louis and Ruth Patterson Brockett.
He graduated from Sauquoit Valley School and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953 during the Korean Conflict. After serving 2 years in the Army, he attended Utica College, graduating with a B.A. Degree. He then went on to Syracuse University and obtained his Masters Degree in social work.
Bruce worked in the field of Human Services for 33 years at Utica Psychiatric Center, managing several out-patient Clinics in Oneida, Herkimer and surrounding counties.
On October 1st, 1960, he married Frances Horgan, a loving union of 58 years, at St. Francis deSales Church in Utica, NY.
Bruce was well respected and liked as he related well to all those he came in contact with. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and fisherman. He was happiest when he and his son spent time together at their camp in the town of Ohio.
Surviving besides his wife Frances are daughters Diana Mulligan and Deborah Plunges and son Bruce (Mary), his eight grandchildren, Jordan (Rick) Davies, Patrick, Jacqueline and Maryellen, McCaylia, McKenzie, Benjamin and Broc and 3 great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Caleb and Ella, sisters in law, Eleanor Brockett and Janice Brockett. He was looking forward to his 4th great grandchild due in December. He leaves many nieces and nephews. Also, special friends Norman and Janice Taylor and his monthly lunch buddies and colleagues.
He was predeceased by brothers Robert and Louis William Brockett and sisters Barbara Brockett and Betty (Carl) Townsend.
At Bruce’s request there are no public visiting hours. Private funeral services will take place at the convenience of the family.
The family extends a special thank you to the Hospice team who showed such kindness and compassion to Bruce and his family.
Also a special thanks is extended to the Bassett Hospital staff including Dr. James Dalton who Bruce highly respected and enjoyed talking with.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice, 4277 Middle Settlement Road, New Hartford, NY 13413 or to a Mount Markham CSD scholarship that will be established in his name for a graduating senior c/o Frances Brockett, PO Box 236 West Winfield, NY 13491.
Friends and family are invited Thursday, August 16th from 4-7 pm to a Celebration of Life at the West Winfield VFW.
Arrangements are under the care of the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St. Sauquoit.
