Obituary for Carl R. Planty

Carl R. Planty 1947-2018
Sauquoit

Carl R. Planty, 71, passed away on October 9, 2018 at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare after a brief illness with his loving family at his side. He was born on April 25, 1947 in Utica, a son of the late Carl E. and Isabelle Meyers Planty and received his education in Utica schools.
Carl proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and on June 20, 1970 was united in marriage with Theresa Saponaro in St. Francis DeSales Church in Utica.
He was employed for 40 years with Special Metals and was a member of New Hartford America Legion Post 1376.
Carl enjoyed his summers on his boat at Sylvan Beach, his many trips to Florida with his family and the times he spent on the golf course.
But his greatest joy came from the times spent with his grandson Nicholas who could always put a smile on his papa’s face.
Carl is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years; Theresa, his daughter; Stephanie Planty of Sauquoit, his son and daughter in law; Carl E. and Nicole Planty of Sauquoit, his cherished grandson; Nicholas S. Planty, his sister; Carol Snyder, his brothers; Michael and Steven Planty, all of Hollywood, FL., several nieces and nephews and close family friends.
He was predeceased by his sister; Debbie Martin.
Carl’s celebration of life with military honors will be held on Saturday, October 27 at 10:00 at Historical St. John’s Church, 520 John St. in Utica.
