Joan M. Stedman 1935-2018

Joan M. Stedman, 83, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on October 23, 2018 with her family at her side. She was born on October 8, 1935 in Waterville, N.Y., a daughter of the late Raymond and Mary Ellen Quinn Ireland and was a 1953 graduate of Waterville High School.
On July 23, 1955 she was united in marriage with Francis G. “Dutch” Stedman in St. Bernard’s Church in Waterville, loving union of 56 years until his death on November 1, 2011.
Joan was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s-St. Anthony’s Church and was active in its Altar Rosary Society.
She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who took great pride in the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her garden and spending time with family at the Gold Coin Farm.
Joan is survived by her daughters; Bonnie and Doug Gehringer of Chadwicks, Nancy Prichard of Chadwicks, Karen Stedman and her fiancé Dan Bigos of Sauquoit and Aimee and Tim “Pete” Howard of Oriskany Falls, her sons; Daniel and Sharon Stedman of New Hartford, Michael “Mick” and Darlene Stedman of Sauquoit and Andy and Joan Stedman of Waterville, her sister; Katherine Peck, her sisters in law; Patricia Ireland and Shirley Clere, her best friend; Gail Facchini, 21 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and special neighbors; Jeff and Kelly Wheelock.
She was predeceased by her sons in law; William Prichard and Steven Majka, her sister; Deborah Langdon, her brothers; Charles and Raymond Ireland, her in laws; Clarence and Doris Stedman, Helen and Jim Cadden, Bernard “Bub” and Marie Stedman, John Peck and her close friend; Charles Facchini.
Joan was blessed with many special people who were there during her illness; her medical caregiver Sally O’Callahan FNP and her caretakers; Martha, Bonnie, Donna and Karen.
Joan’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 27 at 10:00 at St. Patrick’s-St. Anthony’s Church in Chadwicks. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Clayville.
Calling hours will be Friday (today) from 4-7 at the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St., Sauquoit.
