Glenda J. Nikodem, 73, passed away unexpectedly on December 6, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. She was born on September 13, 1945 in Utica, the daughter of the late John P. and Laura Porter Connine.
Glenda began her education at the District 5 school on the corner of Higby and Albany roads and completed it at Sauquoit Valley Central School.
On July 19, 1969 she was united in marriage with Joseph Nikodem in St. Mary’s Church in New York Mills.
Glenda was actively involved with the Frankfort Hill Historical Society, was president of the Herkimer County Firemen’s Ladies Auxiliary, was a member and past president of the Frankfort Hill Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and along with her husband, Joe, were active in the Moravian Church of the Good Shepherd in New Hartford.
She was a huge country music fan, having traveled to Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry and enjoyed the many summers she and Joe spent vacationing in Maine.
She also enjoyed genealogy and researching the history of her family.
Glenda is survived by her devoted and loving husband of almost 50 years, Joe, her nephew Eric Connine, whom she considered a son and Eric’s son, Steven Connine and Beth Clayton and their children; Adam, Matthew, Lilly and Adalyn and special a friend, Joyce Buell. She was also blessed with her dear friends, Rich Miner and Siri Wightman who went above and beyond assisting her and Joe.
She was predeceased by her brother; John Connine.
Glenda’s family will be receiving family and friends at the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St. Sauquoit on Monday, December 10 from 10-12 with services following at 12.
Interment will be in Norwich Corners Cemetery.
