ROME, NY — Mrs. Christine Marie Blaschak-Welch, age 55, of Rome, NY passed away with her loving family at her side on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse.
Born in Rome, NY she was the daughter of Mary T. (Drugach) Blaschak and the late Walter G. Blaschak. She was raised and educated in Rome, NY where she graduated from Rome Catholic High School. Christine held a position for over 35 years with Utica National Insurance Group. On October 14, 2016 she was united in marriage with Ralph E. “Butch” Welch, Jr. The couple enjoyed traveling and camping; they frequented Old Forge, Beak & Skiff Apple Hill Campus in Lafayette, NY, and Chittenango Falls, NY. Christine was a kind compassionate person who always put the needs of others before her own. Her generosity led her to be an organ donor; she was able to donate her eyes to help someone else.
She is survived by her husband, Ralph E. “Butch” Welch; her mother, Mary T. Blaschak; a daughter, Rebecca Anne Davis; a son, Matthew Davis all of Rome; a brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Eileen Blaschak of Rome; many nieces and nephews, including, Katie Blaschak, John and Tiffany Blaschak, and Aaron S. and Amy Lazovik; and great-nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Blaschak, Kinsleigh Bogart, and Carter and Caleb Lazovik. Also surviving are many cousins and in-laws, Linda and Fred Zammiello, Suzanne Teesdale, and Cathy and Kevin Wright. She was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth.
Visitation will be held on Friday afternoon from 5-8 at the Strong-Burns & Sprock Funeral Home, 7751 Merrick Road, Rome, NY 13440. Christine’s funeral service will commence of Saturday morning at 11:00 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 1807 Bedford Street, Rome, NY 13440. Interment will take place in Norwich Corners Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida Street, Sauquoit, NY 13456.
