Marilyn A. Jones 1934-2019
To send flowers in memory of Marilyn A. Jones (Gilloren), please visit our Heartfelt Sympathies Store.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Wild Irish Rose.
Marilyn A. Jones, left this earth on July 1, 2019, to join her God in paradise. Marilyn was born on October, 24, 1934 to Arthur and Ruth Gilloren. She was raised and educated in the Sauquoit Valley, achieving the rank of Salutatorian in her graduating class.
She went on to marry Charles A. Jones Jr, on January 23, 1954. Mom and Dad raised 8 children together until Dad’s passing in 1981. Then Mom carried on that daunting task on her own, with love and strength that was never ending. She was truly our rock, our light - and our referee, diligently keeping us all bound to each other through good times and bad. I think her proudest accomplishment was successfully raising a well-rounded, although at times a bit off kilter group of individuals that were bound to each other unconditionally.
Aside from her family accomplishments, Mom was employed at General Electric for a time during the Korean War and was particularly proud of her efforts working on the F-111. Mom was also a talented business woman, owning and operating several businesses to support her family. She began with Marilyn’s Knit n Needles, a successful yarn shop, which later turned into a craft store named Creative Xpressions. She made countless friends during her year’s operating those businesses. She then went on to begin a partnership that would last the rest of her life with her daughter Bridget. First creating award winning hand made dolls together, then opening a day care business in which they were able to help raise all of her grandchildren as well as many other children before retiring in 2001. Bridget later continued this partnership, as she became the primary caregiver for our Mother these past two years.
MOM, leaves us all to carry on her beloved Irish heritage, beginning with her daughters, Bonnie Bach, Kerry (Michael) McDermot, Bridget (Thomas) Roberts, Erin Jones, Colleen (Don) Critelli, Tara (Don) Healey, and her son, Charles A. (Babette) Jones III. NANA, leaves Rick Bach, Everett Lockwood, Kayla (Lockwood) Baker, Meghan Roberts, Dylan and Shaine Wheelock, Joe, Chris and Katie (Nelson) Critelli, Don and Sam Healey, Daniel Sansevieri, and Sydney Jones. And the great-grands, Kaine and Otto. And AUNT MARY, leaves many beloved nieces and nephews.
One of the greatest losses of Mom’s life was that of her daughter Sharlie who has been waiting for her since 1966. It brings us all comfort that they are now united in paradise.
Please join us in celebrating her life on Tuesday July 9th at 5:00 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Our family will receive guests at the conclusion of the service. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Mom’s name to Hospice and Palliative Care (www.hospicecarinc.org).
Arrangements are with the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St., Sauquoit.
